Common Misconceptions About Trad Climbing

Just like any style of climbing, traditional climbing carries it's own set of steriotypes. Some of these include that trad is mostly done by old people, its just for people who like gear, crack climbing is painful, and that it is not fun to climb a bunch of easier pitches back to back. But each of these is a misconception. Trad climbing is performed by people from all age groups. Trad climbing is also not so much about getting to play with gear as it is being able to place that gear where you would like to. In sport climbing you have to wait until the next bolt to create a new point of safety. While crack climbing can be painful it soon fades. This gives way to seeing how thrilling and fun crack climbing can be. Many would chose to climb harder and harder routes but it is also fun to climb many easier routes back to back using your own protection.
