Bouldering is Boring

Bouldering is a style of climbing that is different from what most people would consider climbing. In bouldering a climber does not use any gear (other than shoes, chalk, and maybe a crash pad). They only climb around 4-5 meters high at most. The routes often require great strength and explosive power to complete them. The routes do not take more than around two minutes to complete which makes for a very short time climbing with a lot of physical exertion. Many consider bouldering to be boring because it is so short. It does not require the same variety of skills necesary to climb that traditional climbing does. Traditional climbing requires you to know knots, safety techniques, proper gear use, belaying, and many other things. Bouldering is basically the bare essentials of climbing. Anyone, no matter their knowledge base of climbing, can go out and boulder, even a four year old child could go out and boulder. Because of its simplicity it lacks the same thrill of putting all of climbing knowledge to use. Many climbers use bouldering to work out certain techniques but stick to traditional climbing once they have learned those techniques.
